Screen and light
Does IKAWE Moov have a front light?
Yes. Both Moov Lite and Moov Pro have a front light with adjustable brightness and warmth, so you can read in the dark and shift from cool white to warm amber in the evening.
Does Moov have a backlight?
It has a front light, which is what e-ink readers use instead of a backlight: LEDs along the edge light the page from the front, like a lamp over paper, rather than shining through the screen at you. More in the smallest e-readers with a front light.
How big is Moov's screen?
4.5 inches. Both models have a 4.5-inch e-ink touchscreen, the largest of the pocket readers we've compared.
What is Moov's screen resolution?
Moov Lite is 219 PPI. Moov Pro is 300 PPI, about 680 × 1,136 pixels: the same sharpness as a 6-inch Kindle, and the first pocket-sized e-reader we know of at 300 PPI. See 300 PPI e-readers explained.
How do I adjust Moov's front light?
On screen: drag the slider, or tap + and −, to change brightness and warmth. See front light and buttons.
Is Moov a touchscreen e-reader?
Yes. Both models have a touchscreen, plus physical left and right page-turn buttons, so you can tap or press, whichever suits how you're holding it.
Does Moov have a colour screen?
No. Moov has a black-and-white e-ink screen, which keeps text sharp and the battery lasting.
Can I read Moov in bright sunlight?
Yes. E-ink reflects light like paper instead of shining it at you, so it stays easy to read outdoors, even in bright sun.
Size and design
How big is IKAWE Moov?
110 × 66 × 6 mm and 75 g, for both Moov Lite and Moov Pro. That's narrower than most phones and about half the weight of a 6-inch Kindle or Kobo.
Does Moov fit in a pocket?
Yes. At 66 mm wide and 75 g, Moov slips into a jacket pocket, most jeans pockets or a small bag. See the portable e-reader size guide for how it compares.
What colours does Moov come in?
White or black, with buttons that match the body.
What is Moov made of?
ABS plastic, with rounded edges and a single flush front lens.
Is Moov magnetic?
Yes. The magnetic back attaches to MagSafe-style phone cases and metal surfaces such as fridge doors, and two adhesive metal rings come in the box for phones and cases without magnets.
Does Moov work with MagSafe?
It attaches to MagSafe-style magnetic cases, but it isn't MagSafe certified and doesn't charge wirelessly. Moov charges over USB-C.
Water resistance
Is IKAWE Moov waterproof?
Moov Pro is splash and water resistant: rain, splashes and wet hands are fine. Moov Lite isn't water resistant. More in water resistance on pocket e-readers.
Is Moov Lite water resistant?
No. Water resistance is a Moov Pro feature, so keep Moov Lite dry.
What should I do after Moov Pro gets wet?
Wipe it dry, and let the USB-C port dry completely before charging. After salt water or chlorine, wipe it first with a cloth dampened in fresh water.
Books and formats
Does IKAWE Moov support EPUB?
Yes. EPUB is Moov's main format: both models read DRM-free EPUB books, with hyphenation, footnotes, custom fonts and bookmarks.
What file formats does Moov support?
Moov reads DRM-free EPUB, MOBI, FB2 and TXT books, CBZ comics, PDFs, and JPG/JPEG, PNG, PNM, PGM, PBM, PPM, PAM, PSD and PS images. EPUBs and images can be copied over USB-C; the IKAWE app processes the other formats for Moov.
Can Moov read PDFs?
Yes, through the IKAWE companion app. Moov Pro adds enhanced PDF reflow and text formatting, which re-wraps a PDF's text to fit the 4.5-inch screen at a readable size.
Does Moov support MOBI?
Yes, DRM-free MOBI files, imported through the IKAWE app, which processes them for Moov. Newer Kindle formats such as AZW3 and KFX aren't supported; convert DRM-free copies to EPUB with calibre.
Can I read comics on Moov?
Yes. Moov reads CBZ comic archives and common image formats. The 4.5-inch screen suits panels and small pages; for full-page manga or comics, a 6-inch or larger screen is more comfortable.
Can I read Kindle books on Moov?
Only DRM-free ones. Books bought from the Kindle store are usually DRM-protected and only open in Amazon's apps and devices. See how to organise an e-book library.
Does Moov work with Libby or library books?
No. Libby and other library loans are DRM-protected, so they don't open on Moov. If you rely on library loans, a Kobo or Kindle is a better fit.
Where can I get books for Moov?
Free public-domain books from Project Gutenberg and Standard Ebooks, DRM-free e-books from publishers and stores that sell them, and your own documents.
How do I get books onto Moov?
Two ways: import them in the IKAWE app on your phone and select Sync on Moov, or connect Moov to a computer, select USB Mode and copy EPUBs and images into the books folder. The app prepares PDF, MOBI, FB2, TXT and CBZ files for Moov. Step by step: add books to Moov.
Can I change fonts on Moov?
Yes. Select Font on the reading screen to change it, and add your own fonts in TTF, OTF or TTC format with the IKAWE app or over USB-C. See how to add custom fonts.
Software and apps
What software does Moov run?
CrossPoint, an open-source reading firmware, out of the box. It's built for small e-ink readers and used on several pocket readers.
Does Moov run Android or apps?
No. Moov runs a reading firmware only, with no Android, app store, browser or media player, so nothing pulls you away from the page.
Does Moov have ads?
No. There are no ads, feeds or notifications on Moov.
How does Moov get software updates?
Over the air, through Wi-Fi, so new features arrive without a cable.
How do I bind Moov to the IKAWE app?
On Moov, go to Settings and select Log In to Account to show a QR code, then scan it with the IKAWE app and follow the instructions. See bind Moov to the IKAWE app.
Is the IKAWE app available for iPhone and Android?
Yes. The IKAWE app is available for iOS and Android, and connects to Moov over Wi-Fi.
How do I reset Moov?
Press the reset button next to the power button. It factory resets Moov's settings, so you'll connect to Wi-Fi and bind the app again; books on the microSD card aren't erased. If Moov freezes, wait a few minutes before resetting. See troubleshooting.
What is the IKAWE companion app?
A phone app for iOS and Android that sends books, documents and fonts to Moov over Wi-Fi, and prepares PDFs and other formats for it. It lives on your phone; it doesn't add apps or feeds to the reader.
Battery, charging and storage
How big is Moov's battery?
1,100 mAh, on both models.
How long does Moov's battery last?
Weeks at 30 minutes of reading a day, with the front light low. Brightness and Wi-Fi use make the most difference. See battery and charging.
How do I charge Moov?
With a standard USB-C cable, which also handles file transfer; one comes in the box. Moov doesn't charge wirelessly.
How much storage does Moov have?
A 16 GB microSD card is included, and you can replace it with one up to 256 GB.
Does Moov show up as a drive on my computer?
Yes. Connect it with USB-C and select USB Mode from the menu in the upper-right corner of the Home screen. Books go in the books folder and fonts in the Font folder.
How many books can Moov hold?
Thousands. A typical novel in EPUB is 0.5–3 MB, so the included 16 GB card holds a very large library.
Does Moov have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth?
Yes: 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Models and buying
What's the difference between Moov Lite and Moov Pro?
Moov Pro has a sharper 300 PPI screen (against 219 PPI), splash and water resistance, and enhanced PDF reflow and text formatting. Everything else is the same. See Moov Lite vs Moov Pro.
How much does IKAWE Moov cost?
Moov Lite is $99 and Moov Pro is $129.
What's in the box?
Moov in your chosen model and colour, a 16 GB microSD card, a USB-C charging cable, a matte screen protector, two adhesive metal rings and a Quick Start Guide.
Where can I buy IKAWE Moov?
From IKAWE directly. The Moov product page shows current availability for each model and colour.
How does Moov compare with the Xteink X4 Pro?
Moov has a larger 4.5-inch screen in a slightly smaller footprint, USB-C instead of pogo-pin charging, and on Moov Pro a 300 PPI screen. The X4 Pro is 3 g lighter and widely reviewed. See Moov vs X4 Pro.
How does Moov compare with the Boox Picco?
The Picco is smaller and lighter (about 58 g). Moov has about 24% more screen area, left and right page-turn buttons, a built-in magnetic back and PDF support. See Boox Picco vs IKAWE Moov.
How does Moov compare with a Kindle?
Moov is about half the weight of a 6-inch Kindle and fits a pocket, and Moov Pro matches its 300 PPI sharpness. A Kindle has the bigger page and the Kindle store, which Moov doesn't.
Is IKAWE Moov related to Readmoo's mooInk?
No. IKAWE Moov isn't related to Readmoo's mooInk e-readers, which have a similar name.
