E-readers to look out for in 2027
E-readers to look out for in 2027: Picco, PocketBook Q, the China-only Xteink S4 and IKAWE Moov. A watchlist of promising devices, not a best-of ranking.
By IKAWE · Published · 6 min read
IKAWE makes Moov, which is on this watchlist; its price and specifications are IKAWE's own. The other devices are included from makers' pages and the sources below, checked on 4 November 2026. We have not tested them hands-on, and this is not a ranking of what to buy.
Key takeaways
- There is no best-e-reader list for 2027 yet. No 2027 lineup has prices and ship dates we can rank.
- The devices worth watching are ones already announced for late 2026, whose first reviews and stock will land as 2027 starts.
- Boox Picco is still listed as shipping around November 2026. PocketBook Q was expected late 2026.
- IKAWE Moov's first batch is 16 December 2026. Moov Lite is $89.99 and Moov Pro is $99.99.
- The Xteink S4 can run the Kindle app, but it is sold only in China so far.

A watchlist, not a 2027 ranking
People searching for the best e-readers to look out for in 2027 are early. As of 4 November 2026, no company has published a 2027 lineup with prices and ship dates, so a "best of 2027" ranking would be a guess.
What does exist is a handful of devices announced for the end of 2026. If they ship on time, the first months of 2027 are when owners and reviewers will show whether they live up to the spec sheets. If they slip, they become 2027 devices in fact. For what you can buy from today's lineup, see the best pocket e-readers in 2026.

Boox Picco
The Boox Picco is the one to watch if you want the smallest reader that still has a warm/cool front light, a touchscreen and USB-C. It is a 3.97-inch, 235 PPI screen in a body of about 58 g. As of 4 November 2026 it is still on preorder at $99.99 from Boox's Hong Kong warehouse or $109.99 from the US warehouse. Boox opened preorders on 15 September, the first batch sold out, and the store still says shipping around November.
What 2027 will answer is how it feels after that first batch arrives: battery, page turns, and whether sending books through Boox's app is a nuisance. It does not open PDFs. Until owners have it, it belongs on a watchlist, not in a ranking.
PocketBook Q
The PocketBook Q is the phone-shaped reader to watch. The eBook Reader reported it on 26 August 2026: a 5.84-inch, 300 PPI screen, a front light, IPX4 splash resistance, about 130 g, at €199, expected late 2026.
It is not a pocket reader in the 58–75 g class. It is the smallest announced 300 PPI reader with a published IP rating. If it ships in late 2026, early 2027 is when it can be compared with the 6-inch Kindle and Kobo, which are already on sale. If the date slips, it is a 2027 release. See 300 PPI e-readers for how that sharpness compares.
Xteink S4
The Xteink S4 is a different kind of pocket reader: Android 11, a 4.3-inch front-lit touchscreen, USB-C and 32 GB, which can run the Kindle and Kobo apps. The eBook Reader covered the release on 15 September 2026. It is sold only in China so far, and most of its specs come from press reports rather than a store page we can price in dollars.
The thing to look out for in 2027 is an international version. The X3, X4 Classic and X4 Pro already ship outside China and read DRM-free files only. An S4 that left China would be the first widely sold pocket Xteink that can open a Kindle library. Until that happens, it stays a China-only reader, not a recommendation for everyone else.
IKAWE Moov
Moov is ours, so treat this entry as a disclosure, not a review. Preorders open in early December 2026 and the first batch is available on 16 December 2026. Moov Lite is $89.99 (219 PPI). Moov Pro is $99.99: a 300 PPI screen, splash and water resistance with no IP rating, and enhanced PDF reflow. Both are 4.5 inches, 110 × 66 × 6 mm and 75 g, with a warm/cool front light, touch, page-turn buttons and USB-C.
What 2027 adds is time in people's hands. The spec comparison with the X4 Pro and the Picco is already written. Owner reports are not, because the first batch has not shipped. Payment is not open yet. Details are on the Moov product page.
What this list leaves out
Kindle and Kobo already shipped their 2026 models, including a $149.99 6-inch Kindle and the Kobo Clara BW. A 2027 Kindle or Kobo has not been announced, so they are not on a look-out list. The same goes for any unannounced Xteink follow-up: we are not going to invent one.
The Boox Palma 3 has already launched, at about $340, as an Android phone-sized reader. It is a 2026 device, not something to wait on 2027 for. The open questions for next year are narrower: whether Picco and PocketBook Q arrive as promised, whether the S4 leaves China, and whether any pocket reader publishes a real IP rating. Moov Pro is splash and water resistant and does not have one.
